GRAND FORKS, ND (WDAZ)--The Grand Forks community is just two weeks away from having a one-of-a-kind skating path in their backyard.

Thanks to a large grant by the Knights Cities Challenge, the Grand Forks Freezeway project has been underway for over 6 months now.

Now, that the snow has set in and the temperatures are dropping, event leaders say they're making progress on what they hope to be a huge event.

"We're going to be flooding hopefully in the next little bit. A lot of the rinks downtown are getting flooded, but we are going to be the last ones in because this is brand new, so we are really excited to put the liner down, but we've got everything in place!" said Leader of Freezeway Project, Nick Jensen.

HB Sound and Lighting just installed temporary cafe lights above the Freezeway, so people can skate when the sun goes down.
