EMERADO, ND (WDAZ)--The city of Emerado is no longer charging for pet tags.

The city of Emerado had a pet tag policy similar to Grand Forks, where you would have to come in and pay up to $5 to register your pet.

In an effort to actually get people to license their pets, Emerado has changed their ordinance and is no longer charging.

"It makes it a whole lot easier for folks to come in when there's no charge  to it and that way we just know what's in our town and again, if it wanders off, we can get it back to the owner,” said Chief Dan Lund, of the Emerado Police Department.

Emerado has also instituted a pet limit for the city. Previously there was no limit.

You can now own up to six cats and dogs.
